Ort on 03/12: Room K 401; all other days: Science Lounge
Ziele The aim of this course is to prepare students and professionals for an international assignment: a study abroad; an internship or full employment abroad. Participants become aware of their own familiar culture, which they often take for granted. Living, studying or working in another culture requires new skills and a new mind-set.

By the end of this course you will be able to recommend the most effective strategies for living, studying and working in another country, and for making a successful return.
You will do this by means of practical hands-on assignments.
Inhalte What is culture? How does the invisible hand of culture have its impact on our behaviour, our perception and our judgment?
What is Culture Shock? What causes it? How long does it last? What is Re-entry Shock? And what is Professional Re-entry Shock? And how can participants use their international cultural experience to their advantage and to the advantage of their universities and companies?
In this course, we will define culture. We will become more aware of the invisible “basic assumptions” of culture, and how it influences our communication. Especially in International Business. How do people from other cultures perceive our communication? What is lost in “cultural noise”?

We will use “Intercultural Sensitivity” and “Frame-of Reference-Shifting” as effective strategies to deal with culture shock and re-entry shock.
